Desert Botanical Gardens

One thing I LOVE about the libraries here in Phoenix (don’t tell Leslie Knope) is that they have day passes for 2 to area museums, galleries, gardens and attractions that you can check out for free. And there’s so many of them! The other day we were at the library around 4pm, and on a whim, we decided to check out the Desert Botanical Gardens pass, and decided to go that night. It was later in the day so I was a little nervous we’d get there and it would be totally dark. But it turns out that might be the perfect time to go. The light as the sun set was just gorgeous, and there were luminaries and fairy lights everywhere. It felt so romantic.

very few blooms in this garden right now.

see the bunny?

These cacti were like, REDWOODS. So giant!!

A view from below.

All of these images were processed with VSCO Film, which I discovered via our friends Jim + Ravyn! (THANK YOU)

Which brings me to the best thing to happen to my workflow this week, VSCO Film. This is a photography related topic for you fellow photo dweebs. Seriously I’m so in love with this, it’s nuts. Before I had carefully spent hours making actions in Photoshop to resemble a film-ish look, and even after I opened up every photo in PS and ran the action, it would still need tweaking. So. Time. Consuming… but I’m kind of a creative control freak and a perfectionist when it comes to the look of my images, so naturally I just sucked it up and dealt with the reality that I was investing 50+ hours editing a Wedding. And as we all know, the more time we spend in front of the computer, the more burnt out our creative minds tend to get. Or maybe it’s just me! Anyway, I am beyond thrilled to have found VSCO Film, and it perfectly achieves the look I’ve tried to pull out of Lightroom but just couldn’t. I’m so excited. So! Excited! Our next wedding is coming up in a week and I can’t wait to try this out in the wedding workflow and see exactly how much of a difference it makes timewise.

And also, I seriously can’t wait for this wedding!! Amber + Jeff are getting married under a T-Rex at the Natural History Museum in LA. Holy crap! 🙂
